First Impressions
I’ve always had a soft spot for cleansers that promise more than just removing dirt and oil, so when I started hearing more about the CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser, I felt like I had to give it a shot. Funny enough, I noticed CeraVe had a cleanser included in a contest running on OliveTalk, but it wasn’t this one—too bad, because I think it would have been a perfect fit. I’m in my late 20s, my skin is oily, and while it has calmed down compared to my teenage years, I still get random breakouts, clogged pores, and that annoying greasy shine by noon. The idea of a gentle salicylic acid cleanser that also has ceramides and vitamin D sounded like it could balance things out for me. Oh, and for anyone wondering—the Anua product you see on the right side of the photo will be getting its own review soon!
Packaging and Texture

The packaging is straightforward and comes in a pump bottle, which I love because it keeps things hygienic and mess-free. The texture is a gel cleanser, not too thick and not too runny, and it lathers just enough without creating that harsh, foamy feeling. One pump is enough to cover my whole face, so I think it’s going to last me a while.
Scent (or lack of it)
One of the biggest pluses for me is that this cleanser doesn’t have fragrance. My skin gets irritated easily with perfumed products, and honestly, I just don’t want my cleanser to smell like a fake citrus grove at 7 AM. The lack of scent makes it feel cleaner, simpler, and safer for sensitive skin.
Key Ingredients That Stand Out
- Salicylic Acid (SA) : Helps exfoliate and keep pores unclogged, which is a must for oily skin types like mine.
- Ceramides : I love that CeraVe is consistent with ceramides in their products. They help strengthen the skin barrier, so even when you’re exfoliating, your skin doesn’t feel stripped.
- Vitamin D : I don’t see this often in cleansers, but it’s a nice touch for overall skin health.
My Experience
After a couple of weeks of using this cleanser morning and night, I noticed that my skin definitely feels cleaner, smoother, and less congested. My T-zone doesn’t feel as greasy, and I’ve had fewer new pimples pop up compared to before. It’s not a miracle worker—I still get breakouts, especially around my period—but overall, my skin feels more refined and balanced.
One thing I really appreciate is that despite having salicylic acid, it doesn’t burn or sting like harsher acne cleansers I’ve tried in the past. It feels gentle but effective.
Hydration and Dryness
Here’s where I think experiences might differ depending on your skin type. On my oily skin, this cleanser feels pretty much perfect: it removes excess oil, leaves my skin soft, and I don’t feel stripped. But I can definitely see how someone with combination or dry skin might find it a little drying, especially if they’re already using other active ingredients like retinol or AHAs.
After cleansing, my skin feels smooth and hydrated enough that I don’t panic if I forget moisturizer for a few minutes. That’s thanks to the ceramides, they keep my skin barrier happy.
Who I Think This Cleanser Is Best For
- Oily or acne-prone skin : This is where it shines. If you’re struggling with clogged pores, oil buildup, or surface texture, this cleanser can make a noticeable difference.
- Sensitive skin : Since it doesn’t have fragrance and feels very gentle, it could also work for people who are sensitive. Though if you’re super dry, you’ll probably want to follow up with a heavier moisturizer.
- Not great for dry skin : If your skin leans dry, this may feel too stripping, especially with daily use.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I really like the CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser. It’s not flashy, it’s not going to transform your skin overnight, but it’s one of those reliable products that delivers exactly what it promises. My skin feels clean, smooth, and hydrated without being greasy, and I think that’s all I could really ask for in a daily cleanser.
Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely. Especially since it’s affordable and easy to find at most drugstores. It might not be everyone’s holy grail, but for oily skin like mine, it checks most of the boxes.
