Skin type & climate

I have oily yet dehydrated skin that’s prone to eczema, closed comedones, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). I live in a hot, humid, tropical climate.

Product Overview

What sets the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner apart is its minimalist, water-free formulation. Instead of purified water, commonly the first ingredient in most skincare as it features 91.3% Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, a powerful herbal ingredient with a rich history in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This toner has only seven ingredients in total and is designed to deeply hydrate while supporting skin health and resilience.

Despite being labeled a toner, the texture is noticeably thicker than your average watery toner, more like a light essence, which makes it a unique and versatile step in any routine.

Hero Ingredient!

Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract

Also known as milk vetch root or Huangqi, this botanical powerhouse offers multiple skin benefits like anti-inflammatory & antioxidant properties, beinf rich in amino acids, flavonoids, and polysaccharides, support for firmness, elasticity, and skin tone improvement. Also it helps enhance micro-circulation, which can benefit oily, combination, and acne-prone skin.

It’s also certified zero-irritation by the Korea Dermatology Research Institute and has passed rigorous skin patch testing, making it a gentle choice even for sensitive skin.

I’ve used this for a year straight and still don’t know if it’s actually doing something or just being a good layering base 😅 Anyone else feel like it’s almost too gentle?

Guess that only 7 ingredients work together so quietly.

Did you notice any improvement with PIH while using it consistently? I have the same skin type/climate and I’m trying to cut down on actives while healing my barrier, so this sounds promising but I’m hesitant to expect too much from a toner…

Slight change I've notcied but it seems to take long time as to see the actual difference.

Honestly I love this as a toner step when I’m sandwiching hydration. I’ll pat on 2-3 layers before moisturizer and it really does plump up the skin

But yeah, don’t expect a dramatic change overnight. It’s more like... quietly effective.

@Influencer Not her but I use this with Dr.g red Blemish cream and those two pair well with each other I suppose.

Hot take but I kind of wish it had some water content. The root extract is great but it can feel a little sticky in humid weather. I tried mixing one pump with my mist and it actually helped!
