Comparison Review: “Worth the hype vs. the alternatives?”

I’ve tried a bunch of hair oils—Mise-en-scène, Biosilk, L’Oréal, and even the Kérastase Elixir Ultime. They all have their pros, but Moroccanoil Treatment still wins in two key areas: scent and richness.

If you want that weighty, nourishing feel that actually stays in the hair without just evaporating, Moroccanoil delivers. The downside? It’s heavier. I wouldn’t recommend it if your hair is super thin or gets oily quickly.

So here are some of my opinions and observations on the oils I’ve used.

Kérastase is lighter and silkier but a little less long-lasting

Mise-en-scène is more affordable and easier to layer, but doesn’t have the same luxurious scent

Biosilk is somewhere in between—feels good, but I always go back to Moroccanoil when I want the “put together” look

Final verdict?

Still worth the hype—especially on thicker or frizz-prone hair. Just don’t overdo it. I use half a pump on dry hair as a touch-up, and that’s all I need to bring it back to life after a long day.

100% agree on Moroccanoil being the GOAT. That scent alone is worth the price. It's like instant luxury in a bottle. I've tried dupes for years but nothing compares to how it makes my bleached hair feel actually healthy.

Interesting you mention application amounts! I found Moroccanoil works best when applied to WET hair, just 1 pump distributed through mid-lengths to ends before blowdrying. Completely different experience than dry application. Have you tried this method?

Okay but have you tried the Oribe Gold Lust?? It's like Moroccanoil's bougie cousin who went to Harvard. Lighter but somehow more nourishing? My wallet hates me but my hair has never been shinier.
