SK-II Genoptics CC Primer – One Week Later and I Have Mixed Feelings 😬

Okay sooo remember last week when I was basically glowing and singing this primer’s praises from the rooftops? Yeah… we need to talk. Not a total 180, but now that I’ve been using the SK-II Genoptics CC Primer every day for a full week, I’ve got some more honest thoughts.

Spoiler: still kinda love it, but she’s got baggage.

🌞 Daily Use Reality Check

• First few days = glowy goddess

• Day 4 = “Why is my T-zone rebelling?”

• Day 7 = Okay, I need to blot. A lot.

It’s definitely more skincare-y than makeup-y, and that’s a double-edged sword. It looks ✨amazing✨ in the morning, but by the afternoon, if I don’t set it properly (aka powder + setting spray combo), I’m giving glazed donut in a way I didn’t sign up for.

💧Hydration vs Oil

At first I thought the dewiness was hydration. Turns out it’s more like... borderline grease if I’m not careful.

• My cheeks still look juicy and healthy

• My forehead and nose? Oil slick city unless I prep well

Pro tip: if you’re combo or oily, pair it with a mattifying primer underneath and set it like your life depends on it.

💸 Still Worth the Price?

Ehhhhh.

• It’s still luxe. Still gorgeous.

• But for $85? I kind of expect it to stay pretty without needing a full backup routine to make it work.

This is one of those products I’ll probably use when I know I’ll be out for a few hours max, not an all-day wear queen.

🧴How It Plays With Other Products

• With foundation: beautiful, smooth, glowy base

• Alone: very pretty, but doesn’t last long

• With sunscreen underneath? Be careful—it pills if your SPF is too heavy

Foundations layer well on top, but I had one tragic day with a matte sunscreen where my face legit peeled like pastry. We don’t talk about that day anymore.

👀 Skin Reactions?

Surprisingly none!

• No breakouts

• No clogged pores

• No weird irritation

But also... no miracles. Like, my dark spots didn’t fade, I didn’t wake up one day poreless. It’s a good glow base, not a skincare treatment.

🧚‍♀️Who This Is Actually For

• People who live for that glass-skin vibe

• Normal to dry skin types

• Makeup minimalists who want SPF + glow + slight coverage

• Anyone with a “money isn’t real” mindset

Not for: oily skin baddies who want something long-wearing or matte. She will betray you by 3pm.

✨ Final Thoughts (Now That the Hype Has Settled)

So yeah... still like her. Just don’t love her unconditionally anymore lol.

• She’s high-maintenance

• She’s beautiful

• She’s a bit of a diva

• But sometimes, I still reach for her when I want to feel ✨expensive✨

Will I repurchase? TBD. I kind of want to finish the bottle before deciding.

But she’s officially entered my “good for special occasions or chill brunch days” drawer—not the ride-or-die daily fave I hoped she’d be.
