The $20 Multi-Tasker My Skin Can’t Live Without

If you're sensitive to fragrance or essential oils, this product may not be for you but if you're comfortable with those ingredients, the Weleda Skin Food (75mL) is absolutely worth considering, especially at its accessible price point of around $17–$20 NZD.

This cult classic has earned its status for a reason. Firstly, it's a remarkably versatile, ultra-thick cream with a distinctive citrus scent and lanolin high on the ingredient list likely the key to its deeply nourishing performance. Over the past year, I've found myself reaching for it time and again across a range of skin concerns, and it consistently delivers.

Here are just a few ways I’ve used it

1. Eczema relief : I’ve had a stubborn patch of eczema on my elbow for over a year. Conventional treatments had little effect, but applying Weleda Skin Food daily for a week cleared it entirely and it hasn’t returned since.

2. Foot care : Used overnight as a foot cream, it has significantly softened long-standing runner’s calluses, reducing them by roughly 75%. I can’t tolerate urea, AHA, or BHA-based foot products consistently, so this has been a gentle but effective alternative.

3. Dry areas : Applied nightly to my knees and elbows, it keeps them hydrated and smooth for a full 24 hours, preventing any dryness or ashiness.

4. Hand and cuticle cream : With frequent handwashing and sanitising, my hands became noticeably dry and irritated. This cream restores them overnight, leaving them supple and soothed by morning.

5. Lip treatment : I layer a thin amount under my papaw ointment before bed, and by morning my lips feel incredibly soft and replenished.

6. Overnight moisture mask : When my usual night cream (Embryolisse) isn’t enough, particularly during hormonal dry spells, I apply Skin Food as an occlusive final layer. It banishes flakiness and dryness by morning without clogging pores or causing irritation, despite its rich texture and strong scent.

I’ve already repurchased this and have recommended it to my partner, mum, and brother, all of whom are now loyal users as well. One tube has lasted me over a year with near-daily use, thanks to the concentrated formula. While I may sound like a brand ambassador at this point, I'm not as though perhaps I should be!
