My skin type: Normal-dry leaning, dehydration-prone in summer
Primary concern: Lightweight daily SPF with zero white cast & full UVA/UVB protection
Age: Late 20s, preparing for job interviews and long days out

WHY I SWITCHED
As someone who’s used the OG Beauty of Joseon sunscreen for the past two years, I was surprised to admit… it started to feel a bit too much for me lately. Seoul’s been getting hotter and more humid, and halfway through the day, I could feel the original formula sitting on my skin — not uncomfortably, but just there.
So when they released the Aqua-Fresh version, I was cautiously excited. And honestly? It’s exactly what I hoped it would be — like the best traits of the original, bottled in a summer-friendly texture.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT?
•Texture: This is much more of a gel-essence hybrid than a cream. It glides across the skin and disappears within seconds — no stick, no slide.

•Finish: It leaves behind a silky, hydrated feeling. I wouldn’t say it’s matte, but it doesn’t leave a shine either. It feels like you’re wearing nothing, in the best way.
•Compatibility: I’ve worn this over vitamin C, under makeup, over a light moisturizer — it plays nice with everything. I even reapplied mid-day over makeup and there was no pilling. That’s RARE.
•Fragrance & Sensitivity: No scent. No irritation. No eye stinging — even when I was sweating and it accidentally ran into my eyes, nothing.
HOW I USE IT — DAILY ROUTINE
Here’s how I’ve been using it for the past 3 weeks (yes, I’m almost halfway through the tube already):
1. AM routine:
- Cleansing foam → toner → light ampoule (usually green tea or snail mucin-based)
- Water-based moisturizer or gel cream (currently using Pyunkang Yul’s moisture serum)
- Aqua-Fresh sunscreen (2 fingers)
- Makeup base or BB cream if I’m heading out
2. Mid-day reapplication:
- Gentle tissue blot
- Reapply Aqua-Fresh on exposed areas using cushion puff
FINAL THOUGHTS
What I love most is how effortless it feels. It gives that clean-skin finish that just looks healthy — not dewy, not matte, just fresh. If the original Beauty of Joseon sunscreen was your go-to for autumn/winter, this is 100% your warm-weather match.
I still love the OG for those dryer, colder days. But for spring/summer or anyone who hates heavy sunscreen textures, Aqua-Fresh is it. I already bought a backup.
My verdict: Holy grail potential for sure. Lightweight, elegant, skin-caring — everything I need to face the sun without compromise.
BOJ Aqua-Fresh vs. Isntree Hyaluronic Watery Sun:
- BOJ - better for reapplying
- Isntree - slightly more hydrating
Overall I'd say BOJ wins for summer, Isntree for winter. Both beat Western sunscreens by miles anyway.
