Tangle Teezer Ultimate Detangler Hairbrush Review

For the impatient, the tangle-prone, and the “I’m-not-doing-100-strokes” kind of people

Routine context

Let’s be clear: I have long, easily-tangled, color-treated hair. I wash my hair 2–3 times a week, deep condition once, and avoid brushing when wet — because trauma. That was my life before the Ultimate Detangler entered the chat.

Now? I literally look forward to brushing my wet hair. I feel like I’m being gentle, even when I’m rushing.

Grip + design

The handle? Long enough to keep my hand on the thing no matter where I am or what I'm doing. Unlike the OG palm-style Tangle Teezer (which I still like but often dropped), this one actually gives me control. Wet hands, slippery conditioner — no problem. It fits in my hand like it was meant to be there.

In-shower use

Yes, you can use it while conditioning. In fact, it works better with conditioner in. The flexible bristles glide through without yanking or snapping. I usually section my hair with my fingers and brush from ends upward. The brush doesn’t tug or create “false smoothness” — it detangles for real. No pain. No drama. No handful of breakage after.

Dry hair performance

On dry hair, it still holds up. I wouldn’t use it for styling or teasing, but for morning refreshes or post-shower smoothing, it’s perfect. It even works through my hair when I have wave products in — no residue clinging to the brush.

Cleaning

Super easy. Rinse under warm water and tap it a few times — it doesn’t trap product like some other brushes I’ve used.

Overall

If you’re the type to avoid brushing altogether because you dread the pain or knots, this brush honestly makes the whole experience weirdly enjoyable. It doesn’t make detangling magical, but it does make it doable — and that’s everything. I didn’t think I’d become emotionally attached to a brush, but here we are.

This isn’t just a “nice-to-have” — it’s one of those tools you didn’t know you needed until you start using it and can’t go back.

I mean, I want to love it, but on my 3B curls? Not happening. Even with tons of conditioner, the bristles just bend and give me zero tension, so it kind of just skims over knots. If you’re curly and need real slip + structure, the Felicia Leatherwood brush is way better IMO.

Totally agree with you! The OG version was always flying out of my hand but this one is a keeper 👌

This brush literally stopped me from ripping my hair out. I'm dealing with postpartum shedding and this is the only tool that doesn't freak me out when I brush.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but it lowkey made my fine hair more frizzy? 😬

My hair stylist said Tangle Teezer makes great tools for specific purposes, and this one's fantastic for at-home wet detangling, especially on medium to fine hair. But if you’re expecting it to work as a heat-styling or blowout brush, nope. It’s not built for that. Know your use case and it’ll perform beautifully.
