Avène Thermal Spring Water: A $20 Lesson in Absolutely Nothing

I hate to be That Person™ but… I really, truly don’t get the hype.

I’ve been trying to convince myself this isn’t just fancy aerosol water in a matte white can, but here I am, three weeks in, and I still feel like I’m spraying literal nothing on my face. No calming. No glow. No change. Just… damp.

I kept reading things like “soothes redness!” or “a lifesaver post-acid routine!” but I’ve used this after exfoliating, after sun exposure, and even as a mid-makeup pick-me-up. Nada.

It disappears in seconds and my skin looks — and feels — exactly the same. Like I blinked and forgot I used it.

Maybe it’s my fault for expecting too much from a mist with only one ingredient, but I honestly thought I’d at least get a bit of comfort or softness. Instead, it’s just a spritz-and-shrug situation. No scent, no texture, no real after-effect.

Not even cooling, unless I store it in the fridge (which, let’s be honest, I can do with actual water).

I will say: the spray mechanism is smooth and fine. It doesn’t spit droplets all over your face. But that’s about the only positive I can squeeze out of this.

If you love this and swear by it — I’m glad it works for you.

But as someone who paid for magic and got mist,

this feels less like skincare and more like glorified vapor.

Would not repurchase.

Would not recommend.

Would rather spend that $20 on something that actually does… something.

I felt the same way until I tried the La Roche-Posay one, still thermal water, but I swear it calms my redness more noticeably. Might be a mineral content thing? Either way, Avène didn’t do much for me either.

What are the Avène stans seeing that we’re not?? Is there a secret incantation you’re supposed to say while misting?
    A skincare moon phase??
    I need answers.

Weirdly, this works only when my skin barrier is wrecked. Like red, itchy, why did I do that peel wrecked. Otherwise? Yeah, ghost mist.
