My Skincare Diary - The Best and Worst, part 14

Hi girls! I have posted a bunch of lists so far and was really heartened by how helpful others found it, so I thought I’d share it here too. However this time I’ll keep the reviews short and sweet, but feel free to ask if you want me to elaborate on anything!

* Check out the last part!

 About My Skin

I’m with combination, acne-prone, and sensitive skin. My skin does not get along with fragrance, citrus oils, or floral essential oils, so I’ve become a bit of an ingredients nerd by necessity. I still have plenty to learn, but hopefully this list helps others with similarly reactive skin or anyone looking to simplify their routine based on honest experiences.

1. Walgreens Hydrating Facial Cleanser – 1/10

Pros : It’s more affordable than CeraVe and easily accessible if you're in a pinch.

Cons : Unfortunately, that lower price comes at a cost. This cleanser left my skin feeling tight and stripped after each use, which is never a good sign, especially for something marketed as hydrating. The formula just didn’t feel balanced; it over-cleansed my combination skin and didn’t offer any of the soothing or replenishing effects I was hoping for.

Bottom Line : I wanted to like this as a budget-friendly alternative, but it ended up being a lesson in why a few extra dollars for CeraVe or Vanicream is worth it. If your skin leans dry, dehydrated, or sensitive, I’d definitely steer clear.

2. Tower 28 ShineOn Lip Jelly – 8/10

Pros : This lip jelly has such a fun, juicy look on the lips, almost like a lip gloss, but way more comfortable. It’s completely non-sticky, glides on smoothly, and feels plush. The shade range is playful yet wearable, and I love how flattering it is across different skin tones. The price point also makes it a great entry-level gloss for anyone building their lip wardrobe.

Cons : It does wear off fairly quickly, so you’ll find yourself reapplying often, especially after eating or drinking. The scent and flavor could also use a little refinement as they’re not bad, just not very polished.

Bottom Line : While it’s not the most long-lasting or deeply moisturizing formula, it’s such a feel-good product that I still reach for regularly. If you’re after a sheer wash of color and a glassy finish without the sticky mess, this one’s a great pick, especially for the price.

Hope this helps my fellow sensitive skin friends navigate the skincare jungle and I'm always happy to share more if it's helpful! Stay tuned for the next chapter:)
