What I Loved, Didn’t Love, and Want to Try Next, Part 2 - Sunscreens

Hope you liked my part 1, and if it's your first time to see this, don't miss out my part 1!

Since the first year I truly dove headfirst into skincare, I've tried and tested a number of skincare products. Of them, there were products repurchased, and politely passed on a fair share of products. Here’s a roundup of some of the sunscreens that stood out for better or worse, along with some notes on what I’m hoping to explore in the future.

Skin Type : DRY. I was on Accutane a few years ago, so lingering dryness is a constant. I still get the occasional breakout, and right now my main focus is fading hyperpigmentation. My skin’s pretty resilient so most products don’t irritate or break me out easily.

SUNSCREENS

Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturiser SPF

Rating : 3/5 | Would Not Repurchase

This was by far the most moisturizing sunscreen I’ve used this year. I still layered it over a regular moisturizer, but honestly, it could stand alone for most skin types. That said, it’s thick, a bit of a workout to spread evenly, and unfortunately leaves a pretty noticeable white cast. If you’re very fair-skinned, this might not be a dealbreaker, but it definitely was for me.

Biore UV Watery Gel (blue bottle)

Rating : TBD | Would Repurchase in a non-expired state!

I didn’t get to use this for long and realized a week in that it was expired but I really liked it while it lasted. It’s lightweight, easy to wear, and has little to no white cast. The alcohol content didn’t bother my skin, but it’s worth noting if you’re sensitive to that. I wasn’t a fan of the bottle, though it’s the kind that makes it easy to accidentally pour out too much, so I ended up transferring it to a pump.

COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream

Rating : 3.5/5 | Would Not Repurchase

This one’s decent overall. It offers light moisture, goes on nicely, and the slight white cast disappears pretty quickly. My main issue? The fragrance. It’s strong and sweet with a slightly alcohol-y undertone. If you’re sensitive to scents or just don’t like your sunscreen smelling like a skincare cocktail, this might not be your thing.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion SPF 50

Rating : 3/5 | Would Not Repurchase

This is one of those sunscreens that works great until it doesn’t. It applies easily, no white cast, and feels hydrating. But if you accidentally rub your eyes even hours later? Immediate regret. It burns. I’m not sure if it’s residue on my hands or migration from my skin, but the stinging is intense enough that I won’t use it near my face again. Fragrance-wise, it has a strong, beachy scent like SPF and perfume had a baby. Also, it's blue.

Thanks for taking time to my review, and if you have any question, let me know!

Next time I'd bring my experience of oils and toners, so stay tuned!

Have you ever tried the La Roche-Posay Melt-In Milk SPF? It’s thicker but zero white cast on me.

Totally agree on Biore’s bottle design btw. I decanted mine into a Muji travel pump and it made such a difference.

Wait I’ve been eyeing that COSRX one forever—does the scent linger all day or fade out?
I don’t mind fragrance too much but anything sweet-alcoholic is tricky for me. I just want a chill SPF that smells like nothing and feels like something 🙃

I really have a doggy nose so the scent lasts all day sadly. Without that, it would be 4.3/5

Not me nodding along like this is a podcast episode. That Neutrogena one burned me too!! The eye sting is so real. Like why is it always after you forget and rub your eye?? I lowkey want to try it on my body tho since it’s water resistant?

Yeah it bothers sm. For the rest of it, applying it on body would be better way not to waste!
