12 Hours Later: The Yellow Mask That Actually Worked?

from:  https://olive-talk.com/talk/r/QT74Es6/if-the-box-is-boring-im-already-over-it

Twelve hours have passed since I used the sheet mask that made me look like a literal cartoon character. I’m still in Kyoto, halfway through my travel detox between Seoul and New York, and last night’s skincare experiment turned out... surprisingly well.

Let me start with the obvious. The numbuzin No.5 Glutathione C-Fizzing Mask is wild. Bright yellow. Not "golden glow" yellow, but full-on "someone dropped turmeric on my face" yellow. I wasn’t sure if I should be laughing or worried when I saw myself in the mirror. But after waking up today, I’m leaning toward impressed.

The morning after using it, my skin felt totally different. It wasn’t tight like it usually is after a night in hotel air. It wasn’t greasy either. Just... soft. Hydrated. Balanced. When I splashed water on my face, I noticed that I didn’t have those little dry patches around my nose or mouth like I normally do after travel. The texture felt smoother, and my skin tone looked more even overall.

I did my makeup after breakfast and it went on like a dream. No cakey patches, no weird clinging around my chin. I even skipped primer because my skin already looked calm and kind of glowy. For reference, this never happens when I’m on the road. Travel usually wrecks my face, and I spend half the day slathering on moisturizer and trying to hide the damage. Today? It felt like my skin had a tiny reset button.

What stood out the most was how calm my complexion looked. No redness, no post-travel puffiness. I’m not saying I looked like I’d just had a facial, but it was close. That slightly dull tone I’ve been fighting lately? Definitely softened. My cheeks had a bit of bounce, which honestly made me do a double-take.

Also, quick note on ingredients. Even though the serum itself is clear, it’s infused with vitamin C, glutathione, and niacinamide. All three are heavy-hitters for brightening and skin tone correction, and my face actually reflected that. No gimmicks, no weird sticky residue. Just clean hydration and a more even tone.

There were a few things that I didn’t love though. The sheet is super soaked in essence, which is nice for hydration, but it made unfolding the mask kind of slippery. Think slimy seaweed vibes. Not the worst thing, but not super elegant either. Also, the powder sprinkled on the mask gave it a slightly grainy texture during application, which I could definitely feel. Nothing irritating, just... different.

Still, once the mask was on, it didn’t move. I was blow-drying my hair while wearing it, and it stayed perfectly in place. That’s a win in my book, especially when the serum is thick. No dripping, no sliding down my face. Just a good, tight fit that let me multitask.

Here’s the breakdown from my 12-hour post-use experience:

What I liked
① Deep hydration that lasted all night
② Noticeably smoother skin texture in the morning
③ More even skin tone, especially under the eyes and jawline
④ No irritation, no fragrance, very gentle on sensitive skin
⑤ Makeup applied beautifully afterward

What I didn’t like
① Sheet was difficult to unfold because of thick serum
② Powder texture felt a little weird during application
③ Not widely available outside Asia (yet)

In terms of cost, I paid around 1,090 yen for a pack of four masks while in Japan, which comes out to about $1.80 each. For a mask that delivered on hydration and brightening overnight, I honestly think it's a solid value. I could see myself using this again before a big event, or anytime my skin needs rescuing after a flight or a long week.

I’m definitely planning to use another one right before I board my flight back to New York. If it can keep me from looking like a shriveled-up raisin after 14 hours in the air, then I’ll consider it a holy grail travel product.

Would I repurchase? Absolutely. Would I recommend it to someone with dull, tired skin? Also yes. Just be ready for the whole “I dipped my face in curry” look for 15 minutes.

Gotta say, not a fan of thick serums in sheet masks. They always feel slimy.

I didn’t like the powder texture either, but the results made up for it. Skin was baby-smooth.
