What I Loved, Didn’t Love, and Want to Try Next, Part 5 - Acids

Hope you liked my other parts, and if it's your first time to see this, don't miss out the others! Come see my last part

Since the first year I truly dove headfirst into skincare, I've tried and tested a number of skincare products. Of them, there were products repurchased, and politely passed on a fair share of products. Here’s a roundup of some of the acids that stood out for better or worse, along with some notes on what I’m hoping to explore in the future.

Skin Type : DRY. I was on Accutane a few years ago, so lingering dryness is a constant. I still get the occasional breakout, and right now my main focus is fading hyperpigmentation. My skin’s pretty resilient so most products don’t irritate or break me out easily.

ACIDS

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

Rating : 4/5 | Would Not Repurchase

This helped noticeably with post-acne scarring and active breakouts. Initially, I applied it all over my face and woke up with incredibly soft skin the next morning. However, over time, that approach started to make my skin feel sensitizedl, not exactly dry, but a bit raw. I’ve since switched to using it more strategically as a spot treatment, not on individual pimples, but on problem areas and I think that’s the better way to go. The texture is quite dense and not the easiest to spread, so I found myself going through the tube fairly quickly. It's a solid introduction to azelaic acid, but since I’m now using it more selectively, I’ll likely explore a stronger concentration in the future.

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA

Rating : 4/5 | Would Not Repurchase

This was one of the first new products I tried this year. I used it every other night in my evening routine under moisturizer. At first, it left my skin feeling baby-soft by morning, but as my skin adjusted, the visible effects plateaued. I didn’t want to overdo exfoliation since I’m also using other actives, so I dialed back usage. This is a great gentle AHA, especially for sensitive or acid-naive skin. As for the scent as it smells like lactic acid, as expected.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2%

Rating : 4.5/5 | Would Repurchase

This is a staple in my routine for spot-treating active breakouts, and occasionally, I apply a thin layer across my nose to help with blackheads. It works reliably as small pimples disappear overnight, and larger ones shrink in a few days. It’s never caused dryness or irritation for me. It’s a simple, effective formula that does exactly what it claims. I may look into a stronger salicylic treatment in the future for targeted use, but this one remains a solid go-to.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

Rating : 5/5 | Would Repurchase

I love everything about this product from the initial tingling sensation to the dramatic post-use glow. I started using it after getting comfortable with gentler exfoliants like lactic acid. Though the tingling was intense at first, my skin has adapted well. I now use it once a week, occasionally twice. It’s helped smooth my texture and fade acne scars. I always wake up with fresh, renewed skin after using it. Just be smart, apply a thin, even layer since you don’t need to look like a berry smoothie, avoid damp skin to reduce sensitivity, and stick to the 10-minute time limit. I also use it occasionally on my body with great results.

Next time I'd bring my experience of moisturizers so stay tuned!

I’ve been hesitant about the AHA 30% + BHA 2?cause of how intense it sounds 😬 Would you say it's beginner-friendly if I’ve only used mandelic acid before?

I'd not bc the tingling can feel more intense than i did if you are a acid-newbie.

Wait, you’ve used the AHA BHA on your body too?? Genius! Where exactly do you apply it and how often? I have KP on my arms and might give this a shot.

Use it on my back but gotta leave in for like 10-12 mins. If you wanna use it as i do, gotta be careful and that's it.
