My Skincare Diary - The Best and Worst, part 9

Hi girls! I have posted a bunch of lists so far and was really heartened by how helpful others found it, so I thought I’d share it here too. However this time I’ll keep the reviews short and sweet, but feel free to ask if you want me to elaborate on anything!

* Check out the last part!

About My Skin

I’m with combination, acne-prone, and sensitive skin. My skin does not get along with fragrance, citrus oils, or floral essential oils, so I’ve become a bit of an ingredients nerd by necessity. I still have plenty to learn, but hopefully this list helps others with similarly reactive skin or anyone looking to simplify their routine based on honest experiences.

1. Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 – 5/10

Pros : It really lives up to its unseen claim, completely clear with zero white cast, which makes it great under makeup or for darker skin tones. The lightweight gel texture also makes it easy to spread.

Cons : Unfortunately, it didn’t play well with my skin. Within a few uses, I noticed clogged pores and small breakouts, likely due to the heavy silicone base. It felt like it was just sitting on my skin and not allowing it to breathe, which is a dealbreaker for me, especially in hot, humid weather.

Bottom Line : While it might work for those with more resilient skin types who want an invisible finish, I’d say those with sensitive or acne-prone skin should proceed with caution. At this price point, there are gentler formulas that feel more breathable and less risky.

2. U Beauty The Plasma Lip Compound (Rose) - 0/10

Pros : Honestly, I wish I had more positives to list here as the packaging is sleek and luxe, and the applicator is thoughtfully designed. That’s about where the good ends.

Cons : The smell was overwhelming, an intense, chemical odor that made it really unpleasant to use. I couldn’t keep it on long enough to test its claims of smoothing and plumping. For such a premium price, the formula just didn’t deliver, and the scent was a major turn-off.

Bottom Line : This was a big letdown, especially for a luxury lip treatment. There are so many more affordable, effective, and better-smelling options on the market.

3. Youth to the People Polypeptide-121 Future Cream - 7/10

Pros : I loved the creamy, cushiony texture as it felt nourishing without being too heavy, and it gave my skin a nice, hydrated glow. Over time, I noticed my skin looked plumper and a bit smoother, likely thanks to the peptides.

Cons : About halfway through the jar, the product started to develop a slightly off scent, not rancid, but enough to make me question its freshness. I stored it properly, so I’m not sure if it was the formula or just my particular jar.

Bottom Line : A solid moisturizer with good ingredients and visible results, but the price is a little steep if there’s a risk of it turning mid-use. I'd still recommend it for those looking for a peptide-rich cream, but keep an eye on the shelf life.

Hope this helps my fellow sensitive skin friends navigate the skincare jungle and I'm always happy to share more if it's helpful! Stay tuned for the next chapter:)
